Choosing Coolerbrush for a Lifestyle Blog Redesign

I was recently tasked with redesigning the header for a lifestyle blog that focuses on mindfulness, travel, and creative living. The goal was to create something fresh yet familiar—something that felt inviting but also slightly different from the usual clean sans serif fonts dominating the space. That’s when I first encountered Coolerbrush.

Coolerbrush is a display font with a chunky, characterful style that immediately caught my eye. It has a simple structure, but it’s not without its quirks. The letters have a playful rhythm, and their rounded edges give them a soft, approachable feel. It’s the kind of font that feels like it could be hand-drawn, even though it’s clearly designed with precision.

What stood out most was how well it balanced whimsy with clarity. It didn’t feel too bold or overwhelming, nor did it lose its readability. This made it ideal for headlines and section titles where you want to draw attention without distracting the reader.

A Font That Feels Like a Conversation

Using Coolerbrush in the blog’s header brought an unexpected warmth to the design. The font’s charactered shapes added visual interest without competing with the content beneath it. It felt like a natural extension of the blog’s voice—calm, thoughtful, and just a little bit curious.

I experimented with using Coolerbrush for the main title and then paired it with a more traditional serif font for the subheadings and body text. This combination created a nice contrast that helped guide the reader’s eye smoothly from the headline to the content below.

The way Coolerbrush interacts with other fonts is worth noting. Its quirky nature makes it a great choice for decorative accents, pull quotes, and chapter openers in longer publications. It adds a touch of personality without overshadowing the message.

Real-World Applications: From Blog Headers to Printables

Since the blog redesign, I’ve found myself reaching for Coolerbrush in other projects as well. For instance, I used it for a printable planner that included daily prompts and reflection exercises. The font’s friendly tone complemented the content perfectly, making the planner feel more like a companion than a task list.

In another case, I incorporated Coolerbrush into a digital magazine layout focused on sustainable living. Here, it worked well for feature titles and section headings. The font’s unique shape gave each section a distinct identity while maintaining a cohesive look throughout the publication.

For newsletter headers, Coolerbrush proved to be a subtle but effective way to add visual interest. It didn’t demand too much attention but still stood out enough to make the subject line pop. It’s especially useful when you want to create a sense of curiosity or intrigue.

Readability and Practical Considerations

One of the things I appreciated about Coolerbrush was how well it performed across different mediums. Whether it was used in a mobile-friendly blog layout, a downloadable PDF guide, or printed materials, the font maintained its legibility. This versatility is a huge plus for any designer working across multiple platforms.

When designing for long-form content, I found that Coolerbrush was best suited for titles and subtitles rather than body copy. Its chunky style works well for grabbing attention, but it doesn’t hold up as well for extended reading. Pairing it with a clean sans serif or serif font for the body ensures that the overall layout remains easy to read and visually balanced.

Another thing to consider before using Coolerbrush in commercial projects is checking the available styles, alternates, ligatures, weights, and multilingual support. These features can significantly impact how the font functions in different contexts, especially if you’re creating content for a global audience or need specific typographic elements for branding.

Also, ensuring that the font license allows for use in the intended medium—whether it’s an ebook, a print publication, or a digital download—is essential. This helps avoid any legal issues down the line, especially when working with clients or publishing independently.

Building a Better Reading Experience

At the heart of every good design project is the desire to create a better reading experience. Coolerbrush, with its friendly and approachable character, contributes to that goal by adding a layer of personality to the content. It helps set the mood, guide the reader, and reinforce the brand’s identity without being overbearing.

Whether it’s a blog header, an ebook cover, or a newsletter graphic, Coolerbrush brings a sense of calm and creativity to the page. It’s a reminder that thoughtful font choices can elevate the entire design, making it more engaging, memorable, and ultimately, more enjoyable to read.
